Yes, You Can Sleep With Your Wedding Ring On

So as we mentioned, there’s no hard and fast rule that says you have to take off your wedding ring before you go to bed. You’ll find that most people sleep with their rings on every night and have no issues at all.

Here are a few reasons you would want to sleep with it on.

  1. It’s a symbol of your love and commitment.

Your wedding ring is a constant reminder of the love and commitment you have made to your spouse. Wearing it to bed, and anytime in general, is a way to feel close to your partner, even when you’re not physically together.

  1. Leaving it on is convenient

Let’s be honest, between changing into pj’s, brushing teeth, switching lights off and so much more, your bedtime routine is probably packed enough. Taking off and putting on your wedding ring every day can be a bit of a hassle and just add to that process.

So if you don’t want to add to your routine, or have to remember to put it on each morning, then you may just enjoy the convenience of leaving it on.

  1. It’s safe

If you’re like us and often find yourself losing your car keys or having to look around for your bag before leaving the house, then it’s probably not a bad idea to leave it on. It’ll give you peace of mind that it’s safe and eliminate the chance of losing it after taking it off for the night.

That being said, there are also a few potential downsides to sleeping with your ring on that you may also want to consider.

3 Reasons Why You Might Not Want To Wear It To Bed

Not to talk you out of wearing your wedding ring to bed, but there are a few reasons we do hear from some women about why they don’t want to.

  1. It can be uncomfortable

Depending on the design of your ring, it is possible that you may find it uncomfortable to sleep with. Rings with larger gemstones, intricate designs or that are generally more bulky, may catch on your sheets and disrupt your sleep. And additionally, if you’re the type that likes to rest your head on your hand, you may find it more comfortable to take it off beforehand.

  1. You could damage your ring

If your ring is made of a softer metal, like gold or silver, it can be prone to scratching and denting, although unlikely. Even if you find that you’re an active sleeper or toss and turn quite often during the night you’re not likely to have an issue, though some people do want to avoid the chance of bumping it on the bedside table.

  1. Let your finger breathe

And finally, some people can actually have a bit of an allergy to certain metals. So during the night is often a good time to take the ring off to give your finger a chance to breathe. Additionally, if you moisturise often and use any form of cream, it’s possible that you’ll get a build up under your wedding ring. Choosing to take it off at night can be a good opportunity to give it, and your finger a clean.

At the end of the day, it’s perfectly fine to sleep with your wedding ring on. However, if you find that it’s uncomfortable or causing damage to your ring or skin, there’s also nothing against taking it off during the night. It’s completely a personal preference.
